Associate Research Director for Business Services Division, Sedulo Group
Phil Britton is the Associate Research Director for the Business Services Division of Sedulo Group, a leading Competitive Intelligence firm. Phil is responsible for strategic account management, overseeing research teams and projects across multiple industries and geographies. He has been with Sedulo Group since 2018.
Phil has been in competitive intelligence for over twenty years, having started in competitive intelligence and pricing in 2000 with Best Buy, a leading U.S. specialty retailer. There he oversaw a team of 50 collectors and 4 competitive strategy managers located across the US, and conducted multiple competitive intelligence projects, including for international subsidiaries. During this tenure, Phil helped transform a team of pricing collectors into competitive intelligence specialists, with a focus on understanding a competitor’s strategy and the degree of execution.
Phil went on to start the competitive intelligence function for another retailer, Ulta Beauty, in 2014. He oversaw competitive monitoring and market share, working closely with Ulta’s strategy and senior leadership teams. He was a contributor to Ulta’s annual planning process, and frequently worked directly with the C-suite during this time.
Phil’s first experience with SCIP came in 2002 at the annual conference in Cincinnati. It wasn’t until 2009 in which he started speaking at CI events, including SCIP, Frost & Sullivan, Global Intelligence Alliance, RECONverge:G2 and Special Libraries Association – Competitive Intelligence Community events. He was awarded the highest rated presentation for the 2012 SCIP annual conference in Philadelphia. He is passionate about sharing CI knowledge and enjoys being able to give back to the community.
Phil has also facilitated workshops and co-chaired competitive intelligence conferences. As of 2020 he is the President-Elect of the Competitive Intelligence Community of the Special Libraries Association. He holds a with a BS in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and resides outside of Chicago.
